Bessie Mae Goss Holmes entered into this earthly life on Saturday, November 7, 1925 as the eldest daughter born to Missie Miller Goss and William D. Thompson.
A Time To Live
Bessie’s Christian experience began at an early age when she accepted Christ and was baptized by Reverend J.L. Nichlos at New Zion M.B. Church. She continued to serve under the present leadership of Pastor W.L. Hightower and Evangelist Effie Hightower until her health failed. She served as a choir member, a member of the Sunday School, Baptist Training Union and The New Zion Burial Club.
Bessie early education was in the Winston County School District graduating from Winston County Training School. After graduation she continued her education at Rust College in Holly Spring, MS where she was a standout basketball player. She later attended Mississippi State University continuing to advance her teaching career. She was employed by the state teaching in Winston County.
Bessie loved working with her hands and was an avid seamstress. She was employed at Irving Shirt factory in Ackerman, MS until she left to care for her mother.
Bessie was preceded in death by her mother, Missie Miller Goss, her father William D. Thompson, 3 grand children Angelia, Kelvin and Larry;6 brothers Gentle(Jim)Goss Will Goss J.D. (Sam)Goss Robert Lee(Buddy)Goss T.J.(Joe) Goss and Elmer Lee Thompson one sister Mattie Bell Goss-Mitchell
A Time to Transition
Bessie transitioned peacefully into eternity Saturday, December 12, 2020 from her home surrounded by family.
Bessie leaves to cherish her precious memory 2sons Ernest Goss of Irving, Texas and Billy Holmes of Louisville. One daughter Mary Goss Stevenson of Spencer, Oklahoma. 11 grand children 47 great-grandchildren 11 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews 3 special friends, Effie Coleman, Remona Miller and Margaret Ann Goss.
